PSG Edges Marseille in a Shootout to Secure Trophee des Champions Super Cup in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now claimed the season-opening trophy on fourteen separate occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a dramatic leveler followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to get past their arch-rivals in the Gulf and secure a fourth straight French Super Cup victory.

The Champions League holders appeared to be sailing towards a straightforward triumph in the showdown between the Ligue 1 winners and the French Cup holders after Ousmane Dembele found the scoring early on.

However, Marseille struck two times late to seize a surprise advantage. Initially, the English forward scored from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable twist of fortune, the Portuguese striker snatched a crucial equaliser in the final seconds to force the match into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, saving decisive kicks from O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all converted successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a 4-1 penalty win.

Now 14-time winners Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now lifted this competition for the twelfth time in the last thirteen years.
